Accomplishments

Over 500 Wisconsin private college students have been exposed to the message “Think Career. Think Insurance.” These students are being actively recruited into insurance careers. To date, 57 students have attended a week-long insurance emersion experience; 7 colleges have carried out projects to add insurance to their business curriculum; and, companies have hosted 63 student interns. Almost 50%, of college graduates who have gone through the program are now working in the insurance industry.

Goals & Objectives

WFIC and the Insurance Education Consortium pursue four main strategies:
  1. Student, staff, and faculty exposure. Company representatives introduce students to career opportunities in the insurance sector.
  2. Experience with the industry. The Wisconsin Undergraduate Insurance Institute is offered to students as well as internships for rising juniors and rising seniors.
  3. Classroom enhancement. Each private college is encouraged to begin an introductory course/curriculum in insurance.
  4. Consortium building. To assure long-term success, activities are overseen by experts.

The objectives for 2007-08 include:

  • Informing and serving at least 250 interested students during the 2007-08 academic year and summer of 2008.
  • Holding two Executive Committee and Consortium meetings a year with an 80% attendance rate of Consortium members.
  • Holding 15-20 exposure events on campus during the 2007-08 school year with companies, faculty, staff, and students participating.
  • Capturing student information for recruiting purposes.
  • Immersing 50 undergraduate students in the insurance industry through the Insurance Institute.
  • Creating a curriculum committee for the Insurance Institute.
  • Coordinating at least 10 internships at insurance companies.
  • Awarding $50,000 to seed projects in 2007-08 at the colleges to expand exposure and classroom opportunities for students.
  • Tracking the number of students exposed to insurance industry and evaluating the initiative’s effectiveness as a whole.
